NORTHEAST HARBOR – Hope Marie Peckham, 90, died April 17, 2008. Hope was born April 11, 1918, in Franklin, daughter of Charles Curtis Butler and Eva Valentine (Whitaker) Butler. Hope grew up in East Sullivan, attended school in Sullivan and graduated from Portland High School. Hope mar-ried William Marvin Peckham, son of William M. Peckham and Ada Tina (Frazier) Peckham, in Northeast Harbor. Hope was strong of mind and determination, and in addition to raising her family with Bill in Northeast Harbor, she became licensed in both insurance and real estate at the Knowles Co. Her strength of faith and leadership qualities led her to support Union Church of Northeast Harbor, as treasurer, board member and contributor to many committees. She was also active in Mount Desert Island Hospital Auxiliary. Hope was a member and president of the NEH Literary Club. Many people in the Northeast Harbor community will miss Hope. She had three children, Harlene Marie, David Allen and Clarence William. Her husband, Bill, died in 1985, but her three children, nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren survive her. Two nephews, George Peckham and Norris Reddish; and one niece, Chardy Lockwood, also survive her. A graveside service will be conduced 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at Forest Hill Cemetery, Northeast Harbor.
