PORTLAND – Helen A. (Flanagan) Lynch, 74, died peacefully Oct. 11, 2005, at home after a lengthy illness with Alzheimer’s Disease. Helen was born July 21, 1931, in Bangor, the daughter of John P. and Helen (Shea) Flanagan. She was the youngest of nine children. Helen graduated from St. John’s Elementary School and John Bapst High School in Bangor. She was a loving and caring wife to Dr. John F. Lynch, her husband of 53 years. Together they raised eight wonderful children. Her family was her life. Her caring nature carried over to others who became her extended family. Her house was always open to others whether for days, months or longer. She was an avid gardener and a talented hooker of rugs; most were given as gifts to friends and family. Helen was an active member of St. Patrick’s Church in Portland, where she served as Eucharistic Minister. Surviving are her huband, Dr. John F. Lynch and four daughters, Kathleen Daniels and her husband, Bruce Daniels, of China, Maureen Robinson and her husband, Keith Robinson, of Brewer, Patricia O’Brien and her husband, Dr. Timothy O’Brien of Northampton, Mass., Erin Rumpf and John Rumpf of Kennebunk; four sons, Dr. Joseph Lynch and wife, Martha, of Plainfield, N.J., Sean Lynch and wife, Tori, of Portland, Michael Lynch and wife, Deborah, of Lyman, Patrick Lynch and wife, Heidi, of Hollis; a brother, Thomas S. Flanagan; and a sister, Kathleen McManus and her husband, Dr. Reginald McManus; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren plus numerous nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Porland. Prayers will be recited at the chapel, 10:15 a.m. Friday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church. Burial will follow at New Calvary Cemetery, South Portland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Helen to St. Patrick’s School, 1342 Congress St., Portland, ME 04102; or to the Alzheimer’s Association of Maine, 163 Lancaster St., Portland, ME 04101.
