An Old Town woman was severely injured in an assault Thursday afternoon.

A man allegedly assaulted the woman at a home on Poplar Street before fleeing in the woman’s vehicle, Old Town Police Chief David White said.

The woman was taken to the hospital with severe injuries that do not appear life-threatening, White said.

Old Town police have located the vehicle the man fled in and started searching for the suspect with a police dog around 1:20 p.m., White said.

There is likely no threat to the public, White said.
