ORONO and BANGOR – Helen Alice (DeCesere) Gilbert, 91, of Orono, wife of the late Albert A. Gilbert, died Dec. 6, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Aug. 19, 1913, in Bangor the daughter of Alphfonso and Margaret Isabella (McLeod) DeCesere. Helen had been employed at the former Sandler’s shoe factory of Bangor as a presser and cutter. She was a member of the Orono Senior Citizens. Surviving are two daughters, A. Barbara Malley and her husband, Lloyd, of Bangor, Pauline M. Dufour and her husband, E. James, of Skowhegan; six grandchildren, Becky M. Craig, Margaret A. Martin, Jodi Malley, Michael J. Dufour, Anne M. Zuckerman, David A. Dufour, and Lynn Leighton, wife of her late grandson; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one brother, Vincent A. DeCesere of Orrington and Arizona; a special nephew, Gerald Mundy and his wife, Anne, of Bangor and other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson, Steven J. Leighton; brothers, Norman, David, Frank, and Paul; a sister, Margaret “Peggy” McKeague. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St, Bangor where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Dr. Rex H. Garrett Jr., director of Chaplaincy Services at EMMC officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Family Center following the services Friday.
