SULLIVAN – Helen. E. Stevens, 98, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. She was born March 21, 1906, in Milbridge, the daughter of James and Mary (Norton) West. Helen was a hard worker, but took time to enjoy certain hobbies such as gardening, fishing and hunting. In her late 50’s, Helen shot a bear, almost in her back yard, a feat of which she was very proud. She also was an avid snowmobiler, driving her own snowmobile until she was 86. Helen is survived by four children, Willard Hardison and his wife, Patricia, of Sullivan, Harry Hardison and his wife, Sandra, of East Sullivan, Betty Tracy and her husband, Carl, of Franklin, and Ann Thayer and her husband, Kenneth, of Carmel; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Helen was predeceased by her first husband, Maynard Hardison; her second husband, Leroy Stevens; and three children, Pauline Kelleher, Hazel Tracy and Barbara Moon. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at the Bragdon-Kelley-Camp-bell Funeral Home, 215 Main St., Ellsworth, with Pastor Bob Maddocks officiating. Interment will be at Simpson Cemetery, Sullivan.
