HELEN ELIZABETH BALDWIN HARRINGTON and CHERRYFIELD – Helen Elizabeth (Brimmer) Baldwin died May 2, 2004, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital. She was born June 19, 1915, in Brewer, the daughter of George H. and Rosanna M. (McCaw) Brimmer. Helen graduated from Brewer High School in 1933 and Farmington Normal School in 1935. She continued her education at the University of Maine, the University of Maryland, and Yonseii University (Seoul, Korea). She taught school in Brewer and Veazie at the elementary and secondary levels. Helen served as an officer of the Seoul (Korea) Children’s Relief Hospital in the early 1960’s and was awarded a commendation by the Mayor of Seoul for her outstanding volunteer work. She was a past president of the United States Overseas Mission Women’s Club and a past president of Bamboo Circle, an international group in Seoul, Korea. She did volunteer work in the schools in Korea as well as in Conakray, Guinea (West Africa) and in Mogadishu, Somalia (East Africa). Helen did volunteer work at Eastern Maine Medical Center and at the Bangor/Brewer TB Health Center. Before moving to Harrington in 1986 to live with her son and his family, Helen was a member of the Bangor Junior League and the Patawa Club of Bangor. She was a charter member of the Bangor-Brewer Little Theatre. She was a member of the Athene Club of Bangor, the MPM Club of Brewer, the Women’s Auxiliary of Eastern Maine Medical Center, the Bangor Symphony Women, the Brewer Library Association, and a life-member of the Brewer Historical Society. For the past two years Helen has resided at Sunset Hill Home in Cherryfield. She was very grateful to those very special people who cared for her, Peter Duston and his staff, Cassie, Cheryl, Julia, Karyn, Nancy, Riley, and Sue. She especially enjoyed her friendships with Dottie Stewart and Jessie Duston. She is survived by her son, David P. Baldwin, of Harrington and wife, Mary Helen; stepson, Richard B. Baldwin Jr. of Bangor; two grandsons, Scott R. Baldwin of Gorham and Jonathan C. Baldwin of Harrington; one great-grandson Wilder C. Baldwin of Gorham; her brother John A. Brimmer and wife, Lucille, of Brewer; and sister, Anna Wood and husband, Arvin, of Broadview, N.M. She is also survived by her nephews, G. David Brimmer of Portland; John C. Brimmer of Penns Run, Pa., Russell Brimmer of Portland, Michael G. Wood of Clovis, N.M., John Wood of Broadview, N.M., Katherine (Wood) Hammock of Clovis, N.M., and Stephen Wood of Dallas, Texas. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard B. Baldwin; in 1984 and her brother, G. Robert Brimmer in 1983. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, May 10, 2004, at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Brewer.
