NEWPORT – Helen E. Brackett, 79, died Feb. 5, 2007, at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born May 4, 1927, in North Dighton, Mass., a daughter of Lloyd and Winnifred (Spendlove) Horton. She retired from the Dexter Shoe Co., Dexter. Helen was a longtime member of the Pleasant Street Christian Church, Corinna, which was very important to her. She was a member of the church choir, director of the nursery, director of the junior church, and the Good News Club. She enjoyed working with the children. She was also actively involved in Hospital Chaplaincy, and was a member of the Happy Hour Club. Helen was also a volunteer driver for the Road to Recovery program. She loved miniature golf, reading, crafts, and spending time with her many friends. She was also a breast cancer survivor. Helen loved her family and enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. She is survived by two daughters, Janice and husband, Harlow Post, of St. Albans and Laura and husband, Joseph Kelleher, of Newport; four grandchildren, Amanda Aubry, Sarah and Scott King, and Ryan Rowe; six great-grandchildren, Ethan and Ebon Aubry, Topanga, Emerald and Remington King, and Xavier Rowe; a brother, David Horton of Massachusetts; and two sisters, Ruth Brackett and Marjorie Wilbur, both of Florida. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Brackett; son, Donald Brackett Jr.; and a brother, Lloyd Horton. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at the Pleasant Street Christian Church, Corinna, with the Rev. Edward Jaworski officiating, at a time to be announced. Burial will be at Nemasket Hill Cemetery, Middleboro, Mass. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal, Newport.
