BANGOR – Helen Mackintosh, 98, died Sept. 12, 2006, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born May 19, 1908, in Carbondale, Pa., the daughter of Thomas and Deborah (Powell) Herbert. Helen was a longtime member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and her church affiliation was most important in her life. She was an accomplished knitter and needlepointer and was extremely proud of her needlepoint projects for her church. Helen was a former member of the board of the YWCA; a member of the Bangor Historical Society, the Symphony Women, the Brewer Library Association and the EMMC Auxiliary. Surviving are her two sons, J. Herbert Mackintosh and his wife, Patricia, of Hampden and J. Donald Mackintosh and his wife, Janet, of Northeast Harbor; four grandchildren, Lisa Mackintosh and her husband, Tony Garvin, of Mahwah, N.J., Jamie Mackintosh and her husband, Mike Rheam, of Wilson, Wyo., Peter Mackintosh of Portland and Jon Mackintosh of Bangor; three great-grand-children, Sean and Erin Mackintosh of Portland and Emery Rheam of Wilson, Wyo. Mrs. Mackintosh was predeceased by her husband, John H. Mackintosh; and her brother, Morris Herbert. Services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 234 French St., Bangor, with the Rev. John Wingert, interim rector, officiating. Private interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery.
