DOVER-FOXCROFT – Helen May (Simpson) Blaisdell, 97, passed away peacefully April 21, 2005, following an extended decline in health and a few days in a local health care facility. Born July 24, 1907, in Corinna, Helen was the daughter of Everett and Nellie (Parker) Simpson. She graduated from Corinna Union Academy in 1925, then commenced nurses training at Plummer Memorial Hospital, Dexter. Dec. 22, 1928, Helen married Harold Woodman Blaisdell, son of Otis L. and J. Marguerite (Woodman) Blaisdell. Helen and Harold were prominent members of the Dexter community. Helen worked for many years as a nurse at Plummer Memorial Hospital and with several local doctors while Harold served as longtime manager of the Merrill Trust Company’s Dexter branch. They were both active members of the United Methodist Church and Masonic organizations. Helen was initiated a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in 1937 and became a lifetime member in 1987 and Harold was a member of the Penobscot Lodge of Dexter, Grand Lodge of Maine and Anah Shrine Temple of Bangor. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Harold (July 6, 1997); sisters, Marjorie Simpson and Agnes Sevey; brother, Leslie Simpson; three nieces, and her only child, Mary Nuite, who passed away two days before Helen on April 19, 2005. Helen is survived by two granddaughters, Brenda Nuite of Wisconsin and Janice Bills of Dexter; Brenda’s husband, Jay Esty; great-grandchildren, Heather Plungy, Lyman Keith Bills and Sara Bills; great-great-granddaughter, Madison Katherine Plungy; and nephews, Everett Simpson of Corinna and Bill Simpson of Brewer. The family would like to sincerely thank Donna Hatch and all of the other in-home health workers whose care allowed Helen to remain in her home until her last week, as well as all others who have expressed their condolences. Helen’s ashes will be laid to rest alongside those of her husband and daughter at a private ceremony at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Dexter.
