PATTEN – Helen Y. Ballard, 77, died July 13, 2007, with her family at her side at her home. She was born May 26, 1930, in Patten, the daughter of Ronald and Winnifred (Shorette) Campbell. Helen graduated from Patten Academy in 1948. She loved her school and until recently, never missed an alumni banquet. She was a very devoted and lifelong member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, where she was a member of the sodality and parish council, past president of the senior citizens, a member of the Shin Pond Babes, and a staunch supporter of many charities. She is survived by six children, Arnold and Jayne Ballard of Patten, Debbie and Dave Conya of Shin Pond, Cathy and Carl Perrin, Julie and Gordon Kaelin, all of Patten, Dennis Ballard and Joyce Pratt of Hermon and Cynthia and Nate Churchill of Brewer; 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pauline Withe of Eddington and Carol Cole of Patten; one brother, Ronnie Campbell Jr. of Berwick; several nieces and nephews; close friends, Nola, Liz, Betty M., Betty L., Ruth, Jeanette, Maddie and Diana B. She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene “Cooche” Ballard; her parents, Ronald and Winnie Campbell, and Julia and Dennis Michaud; one brother, Edmond; and one sister, Louise. Friends may call 1 p.m. Saturday until 8 p.m. Sunday at the home of Julie Kaelin, 541 Shin Pond Road. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Patten, with Father Eddy Morin, celebrant. Interment will be at Patten Cemetery.
