DIXMONT – Helene W. Lawler, 78, died unexpectedly Feb. 27, 2005, at her Dixmont residence following a period of declining health. She was born Sept. 14, 1926, in Woodland, the daughter of James A. and Dorcus M. (Perkins) Poole. She was educated in schools throughout eastern Maine, some years moving twice and attending two different schools. She married Norman D. Lawler Sr. in Palmyra Nov. 28, 1942, he predeceased her on Oct. 18, 1981, following almost 39 years of marriage. She was a homemaker for her large family and worked every day on the family farm with her husband and family. Helene loved her family and spent most of her time with them. She enjoyed camping and did some volunteered work at Meals for Me in Newport. She is survived by five sons, Norman and his wife, Kathie Lawler Jr., Roger Lawler, Paul and his wife, Darlene Lawler, Richard and his wife, Carlene Lawler Sr., Tommy and his wife, Tina Lawler all of Dixmont; three daughters and their husbands, Linda and Donald Williams of Dixmont, Connie and Byron Curtis of Dixmont, Patsy and Jim Husson of Hampden; a granddaughter that Helene raised, Lori and Shane Baker of Pittsfield; one sister, Elizabeth White of Turner and Zephyrhills, Fla.; 26 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, parents, and two brothers, James and Wendell. A private family gathering will be held this week at the Brown Funeral Home in Newport. Public graveside services will be conducted in the spring at the family lot in the Sawyer Cemetery in Plymouth. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Brown Funeral Home Newport.
