WEST ENFIELD – On the bright and beautiful spring morning of May 4, 2007, our lovely wife, mother and grandmother, Heloise “Lois” Tilton, passed from this life of physical hardships to a much better place, where even now she is walking, talking and moving freely in the midst of all the wonders of heaven; smelling the beautiful flowers and listening to the melodious songs of birds. This woman of indomitable spirit lived for 10 years with very limited mobility, yet she consistently maintained a positive attitude. Because of her great inner strength and perseverance, she went through each trial with grace and a sense of humor. Everyone who knew her was blessed beyond measure to have her in their life. Heloise M. Tilton, “Honey,” was born July 12, 1922, in Lagrange, the daughter of Blanche and Clifford Huntley. A year later, she was joined by a brother, Charles. Lois lost her dad in a tragic woods accident, when she and her brother were very young; but eventually she got a stepdad, whom she grew to love deeply. She graduated from Lagrange High School in 1941 and took some secretarial courses. Honey worked at Atlas Plywood for a while, and various other jobs until she met the handsome young soldier, Vau-ghn C. Tilton, who would become her husband. She knew she wanted to raise a family with him and take care of their home. She was a wonderful homemaker. She was an excellent cook and an even better seamstress. She was very family oriented. Her home and her family came first in her life, and she used all her creative talents to make a comfortable and loving environment for them. Her children were blessed in countless ways to have such a loving, caring and devoted mother. Vaughn and Lois spent a great deal of time together fishing, and working in their gardens. They had an extremely loving and close relationship that never faltered even in difficult times. Lois is survived by her very loving and devoted husband of more than 60 years; her daughter, Bonnie and son-in-law, Dennis; her daughter, Shelley and son-in-law, Paul; her son, Dwight and daughter-in-law, Robin. Lois deeply loved her grandchildren, Holly Samson and husband, Eric, Heather Bean and husband, Jay, Heidi Priest and husband, Chip, Melissa Cameron and husband, Dave, Dana Gray and wife, Rosa, Raymond Tilton and wife, Crystal, and Joshua Tilton. She was especially delighted by her great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Kylie, Lyla, Madison, Cameron, Tyler, Nicole, Dominik, Zachary and Carlos. They brought her great joy in recent years. She is also survived by her brother, Charles and her sister-in-law, Edna; several nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her wonderful caregiver, Janet. Friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Keith Cushman officiating. Interment will be at Dodlin Road Cemetery. Those who wish may donate in her memory to the American Cancer Society. For an online register book, please visit www.clayfuneralhome.com
