MARS HILL – Henry D. “Red” Gillen, 93, died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, at a Mars Hill nursing home. He was born June 25, 1912, in Mars Hill, the son of Joseph Gillen Sr. and Elizabeth (Curtis) Gillen. Henry was a graduate of the Aroostook Central Institute in Mars Hill and later worked for many local farmers. He also sold fertilizer for Armour’s, clerked in Steen’s Store, and had a ceramic shop along with his wife, Geraldine. Henry was an attendee of the Faith Baptist Chapel in Blaine. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Geraldine (Downing) Gillen of Mars Hill; a son, Richard and his wife, Judith, of Blaine; a daughter, Bonnie Wotton and her husband, Earl, of Monticello; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, a sister, Pauline Gartley and her husband, Myron, of Presque Isle; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Henry was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph Jr. and Herschel; and a sister, Beulah Vinsonhaler. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Duncan Funeral Home, 8 Main St., Mars Hill, with the Rev. Kenneth Poole officiating. Friends may call from noon until time of service.
