CHERRYFIELD – Henry O. Nichols Jr., 80, died at an Ellsworth hos-pital Feb. 29, 2004, after a long illness. He was born Nov. 17, 1923, in Harrington, the son of Henry and Rose (Dolan) Nichols. Henry served in the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II in the Philippines. Following the war he served in the Army of Occupation in Japan with the Signal Corps. Following his return home in August of 1946, he went back to work as a farmer and corrections officer at Bridgewater, Mass., where he worked for 20 years. Henry was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed his time as a woodcutter, gardening and teaching his children and grandchildren to hunt and fish. For many years he was Little League Coach in Lakeville, Mass. Henry was a member of the Faith Bible Fellowship in Milbridge. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hilda Carter Nichols of Cherryfield; four sons, Kenneth and his wife, Mary Ann, of Columbia, Robert of Cherryfield, Richard and his wife, Diane, of Lakeville, Mass., and Daniel of Columbia; one daughter, Judy Bradley of Cherryfield; nine grandchildren, Myrtle, Charlie, Raymond, Sharon, Jared, Shane, Sterling, Todd and Erin; three great-grandchildren, Hunter, Joshua and McGuire; three sisters, Madeline Kennedy, Beatrice Hammond, both of Harrington, and Natalie Wass of Hamden; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Karen; two brothers, Robert and Chester; and one sister, Gwendolyn Faulkingham. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Milbridge. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at the Faith Bible Fellowship with Pastor Ambrose Rolfe officiating. Interment will be in the spring at the Intervale Cemetery, Cherryfield.
