ASHLAND – Herbert O. Pendexter, 79, died unexpectedly Oct. 1, 2007, at his Presque Isle Street residence. He was born July 8, 1918, in Chapman, the son of George and Ninette (Dow) Pendexter. Herbert was employed by Great Northern Paper Co., for many years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and a life member of the VFW, LeBlanc-Junkins Post 9699 of Ashland. Herbert enjoyed the outdoors, especially picking fiddleheads, fishing, hunting and most of all tending to his vegetable garden. He loved quiet time at home with his family and tending to his bird feeders. He is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife, Mary (Bushey) Pendexter of Ashland; one son, Edmund Pendexter and his special friend, Nancy Willette, of Portage Lake; four daughters, Donna Howes and her special friend, John Riley, of Presque Isle, Ninette Hungerford and her husband, Danny, of East Lebanon, Rita Pendexter of Castle Hill and Linda Pendexter and her special friend, Randall Jacques, of Mapleton; two sisters, Norma Richardson of Lebanon, Tenn., and Mary Austin of Houston; one halfsister, Ruth Hubbs of Delaware; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; special cousins, Cheryl Miller and Geraldine Beckwith. He will be also dearly missed by his pet cat, Pretty Girl. At his request, there will be no services.
