ORRINGTON and SAHUARITA, Ariz. – Richard A. Card, 64, for-merly of Orrington, passed away Sept. 29, 2007, after a long battle with Diabetes. Richard was born April 8, 1943, in Lewiston. Richard was a standout athlete, earning three varsity letters from Paris High School, where he graduated in 1961. After graduation, he attended Beal College, served a tour of duty in Vietnam with the U.S. Army and then completed his studies at Husson College. Richard spent all of his working years in sales, most recently as an independent insurance agent and financial consultant. He enthusiastically followed all sports, most especially the Boston Red Sox and University of Maine Hockey, attending the Frozen Four every year with his special friends. He coached youth soccer, basketball and baseball and spent countless hours in the backyard teaching both his and the neighborhood children the finer points of the games. Richard was an avid reader, who had an extensive book collection and served on the board of the Orrington Public Library. While living in Arizona, he volunteered his time in the local elementary school system tutoring children in math and reading. Richard is survived by his wife of 34 years, Carol; sons, Dick Record and wife, Denise, of Oxford, Richard Card and wife, Bethany, of Oxford, Kevin Card and fianc?e, Simran Uppal, of San Diego; daughter, Kristen Bagley and husband, Chris, of Veazie; sisters, Anne Smith and husband, Wayne, of Oxford, Jackie Cox and Craig Goodwin of Georgetown, Del., Cathy Stevenson and husband, Brent, of Oxford, Nancy Norton of South Paris and Brenda Moore and husband, Kevin, of Oxford; brother, Peter Card and wife, Jodelle, of South Paris, nine grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank “Pete” and Marion; sister, Barbara; and daughter, Lisa. A special thanks to Brenda, for her generosity in giving one of her kidneys, which gave Richard an additional nine years of life. A celebration of Richard’s life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Norway.
