HOLDEN – Herbert Wayne Mitchell Sr., 83, died April 29, 2006, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Bangor. He was born May 12, 1922, in Bucksport, a son of William M. Mitchell Sr. and Julia M. (Newcomb) Mitchell. Herb graduated from Brewer High School, Class of 1942. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1942-1946. Herb was affiliated with the former Clark-Mitchell Funeral Homes for many years. He was a member of the Chanters of Anah Temple Shrine and VFW Post No. 4917. Surviving are three daughters, Betty Babcock and husband, Terry, of Glenburn, Elaine Higgins and companion, Alan Kaplansky, of New York, Martha Hasek and husband, Michael, of Indiana; two sons, Herbert Wayne Mitchell Jr. and wife, Carolyn, of California, Brian Mitchell and wife, LaRona, of Colorado; two stepsons, Philip Baker of Brewer and James Baker and wife, Barbara, of Halifax, N.S.; one stepdaughter, Margaret Blasin-game of Memphis, Tenn.; one sister, Elaine M. Kelleher of Bucksport; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wives, Rita (Cummings) Mitchell and Rosalie (Connors) Mitchell; and brothers, Dr. William M. Mitchell Jr., Charles R. Mitchell and Alden C. “Bud” Mitchell. Herb will be remembered by special friends, Dee Doane and Avis Cox. Relatives and friends may call 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at the family lot at Mount Hope Cemetery with the Rev. Roger E. Tracy officiating.
