MAPLETON – Herman Arthur Ballerstein, 65, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007, at a Bangor hospital. Herman was born Feb. 3, 1942, on the family farm in Central Wisconsin, the son of Herman and Laura (Hoefs) Ballerstein. He was educated in the Colby and Edgar, (Wis.) schools and became a master plumber. He served in the U.S. Army, 1960-1963. He married Caroline Neve in 1966. They raised four children. He was a plumb-ing and heating technician in Wisconsin, Montana, and Maine for 30 years. The last 14 years he was the maintenance man at the Aroostook Centre Mall, Presque Isle. Herman enjoyed people and the outdoors. His family was the most important to him. As a Christian man, he served his church in many areas and positions. He is survived by his wife, Caroline of Mapleton; his four children, Tammy Jordan and her husband, Thomas, of Dyer Brook, Michael and his wife, Stephanie, of Huntsville, Ala., Heidi Nunez of Mapleton, and Paul and his wife, Goldie, of Perham; 11 grandchildren, John Julian III, Abigail and Ethan Jordan, Saul, Frank and Cristian Nunez, Andrew, Vivian, Lillian, Valorie and Victor Ballerstein; three sisters and their husbands, Audrey and Delmar Telschow, Erna and Dick Evans, and Arla and Roger Luetschwager; two brothers and their wives, Robert and Alice Ballerstein, and Delbert and Maxine Ballerstein; six brothers-in-law, and their wives, LaVerne and Christine Neve, Leland and Connie Neve, Frank Neve, Edward and Arlene Neve, Donald and Marlene Neve, and Lawerance and Joean Neve, all of Wisconsin; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister-in-law, Judy Neve. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at United Methodist Church of Mapleton with Pastor Dorothy Matson officiating. Relatives and friends may call 9 a.m. until time of service at the church. A reception will be after the service at the church.
