WADE – Herman P. Bell Jr., 88, died Friday, July 6, 2007, at a Mars Hill nursing home. He was born Aug. 30, 1918, in Washburn, the son of Herman and R. Vera (Smith) Bell Sr. Herman was a graduate of Washburn High School and later of Wentworth Technical Institute. He farmed for many years in the Washburn area and was well known for his storytelling and his sense of humor. He was a loving husband and father who always put his family first. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gayla (Glidden) Bell of Wade; three sons and their wives, Robert and Audrey of Wade, Richard and Rhonda of Washburn and Brent and Penny of Folsom, Calif.; three daughters, Roberta Everett and her husband, Ronald, of Fort Fairfield, Donna McIntyre and her companion, Wayne Seavey, of Bangor and Cynthia Eldredge and her husband, Peter, of Westfield; 17 grandsons, nine granddaughters, nine great-grandsons, five great-granddaughters, several nieces and nephews; and a special niece and nephew, Ruth and Eugene Spellman of Houlton. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Frank Davenport and Arthur Bell. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at State Street Baptist Church, Presque Isle, with the Rev. Michael Shaw officiating. Friends may call 1 p.m. until time of service. Refreshments will be served after the service in the church fellowship hall. A private committal service will take place at a later date.
