CARIBOU and ALLAGASH Lyman Dale Hughes, 73, died July 4, 2007, in Clearwater, Fla. He was born June 7, 1934, in Allagash, the son of William and Alice (Walker) Hughes. Lyman was from Northern Maine, but lived the last 11 years in Florida. A U.S. Army veteran and carpenter, he raised his two daughters as a single dad. He was kind, natured, told a good story and had a special fondness for children and animals. He loved to go on long treks through the woods and mountains, was an avid reader and traveled 48 states. He was very proud of the house he built his daughter. He is survived by daughters, Peggy Thibodeau of Florida and Lynda Larsen of Idaho; grandchildren, Bridget, Erin, Paige, Stephen and Daniel; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Jaeden and Samantha; sisters, Winnie Russell of Connecticut and Sheryl Griffeth of Alaska. He will be missed very much. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou.
