BANGOR and EASTPORT – Hilda Madelene Goodeill, 93, died peacefully Sept. 5, 2005, at her home in Bangor. She was born July 31, 1912, in Red Beach, the daughter of Myra Beatrice Shattuck Flagg and her husband. She attended Eastport schools. Hilda married Clarence L. Goodeill in 1931, and they lived in Boston, Mass., and Eastport. She resided in Bangor for the past 20 years. Hilda enjoyed traveling, gardening, and watching her grandchildren and great- grandchildren’s activities and sporting events. Hilda was a fan of Maine Hockey, Maine Women’s Basketball, and the Red Sox. She was a member of Eastern Star in Eastport, and the Pennamaquan Chapter of Eastern Star, in Pembroke. She attended Hammond Street Congregational Church in Bangor. Hilda was predeceased by her husband, Clarence, in 1954. She is survived by her three children, Jean (Donald) Brown of Virginia Beach, Va., Carolyn (Kenneth) Gardiner of Freeport, and C. Dale (Barbara) Goodeill of Bangor; nine grandchildren, Teridale (Frank) Wiley, Dean (Sharon) Brown, Julie (John) Zirkle, Keith Gardiner, Sheri (Donald) Parker, Susan (Calvin) Rice, Deborah (Richard) Manning, Todd Goodeill, and Amy Wright; 12 great-grandchildren, Michael Wiley, John Zirkle, Krista, Dylan, and Jake Brown, Lauren and Reiley Parker, Alexis and Nicholas Rice, Sarah, William and Ryan Manning. She was very surprised and pleased that all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and spouses, gathered in Freeport to celebrate her 90th birthday. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Flagg Funeral Home, in Eastport, with the Rev. John MacDuffie officiating, Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Eastport. Those who wish may contribute in her memory to the Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund, Central Congregational Church in Eastport, or Hammond Street Congregational Church in Bangor.
