WINTHROP – Hilda T. Barrett, 87, died Saturday, July 22, 2006, at the Augusta Rehabilitation Center. She was born in 1919, in Caribou, the daughter of Alfred and Odiana (Gardiner) Thibodeau. Hilda grew up in Caribou and graduated from Caribou High School in 1936. She went on to attend the St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Lewiston and Simmons College in Boston, graduating in 1942. She worked as a nurse for 40 years, including public health nursing, home care and finally, at Togus for 20 years until her retirement in 1982. Hilda loved to cook, especially for her family. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an avid Red Sox fan and also enjoyed watching the local basketball games. Mrs. Barrett was a member of the Women’s Group at St. Francis Xavier Church in Winthrop. She also had a group of friends known as “The Golden Girls” that she spent many hours with in her retirement years. Hilda was predeceased by her husband, Matthew Francis “Frank” Barrett in 1981; and her brother, Lawrence Thibodeau. She is survived by three daughters, Patricia Barrett, of Shrewsbury, Mass., Colleen Lunt and her husband, Stephen, of Winthrop and Kit Warner and her husband, Ansel, of Greene; two sisters, Dorothy Lee, of Bradenton, Fla. and Alyeene Anderson of Caribou; four grandchildren, Dawn-Marie Carr, Allysen Lunt, Matthew Lunt and Christopher Warner; two great-grandchildren, Jack and Drew Carr; and a sister-in-law, Audrey Thobodeau of Presque Isle. Hilda’s family would like to thank all the people who have helped her over the past few years. These people include her friends and neighbors, Nancy, Tina and Tammy for their never-ending care and support; the staff at the Augusta Rehabilitation Center, “Thank you dear and love you;” the special people at Beacon Hospice including, Muriel, Connie, Sharon, Carol; and special thanks to Lynn for her warm spirit and to Dr. Kane for his years of care and service. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Church in Winthrop with the Rev. Brian Blanchette celebrant.
