GOULDSBORO – Hildreth M. (Alley) Young, 91, passed away June 23, 2006. She was born Nov. 19, 1914, in Beals, the daughter of Hiram and Addie (Beal) Alley. Hildreth worked at Stinson Canning Co. in Prospect Harbor as a young woman during World War II until her retirement. She was known for her baking and garage sales. She was also an avid seamstress. Hildreth will be remembered as being a hard worker. She was an avid sports fan, especially of baseball and basketball. She was a faithful supporter of her children and grandchildren’s sporting events. She was predeceased by a beloved husband, Milton A. Young; sons, Lyle E. Backman and Donald L. Backman Jr.; stepson, Robert Young; siblings, Minny, Belva, Lovina, Angelina, Erwin, Harold, Clifton and Donald; daughter-in-law, Paula Phinney; and son-in-law, Louis “Boss” Arnold. Hildreth is survived by son, Calvert N. Carver and wife, Rosalie, of Jonesport; son, Raymond H. Backman and companion, Lisa, of Buxton; son, James A. Phinney of Birch Harbor; daughter, Myrtle Arnold of Geneva, N.Y.; daughter and caregiver, Martha Phinney of Gouldsboro; stepdaughter, Lee (Young) Crapps and husband, David, of Florida; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Martha A. Fagonde; and many nieces and nephews. Hildreth will also be greatly missed by many special friends. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 26, at Greenwood Cemetery, Jonesport officiated by Pastor George Woodward. Friends are invited to gather with the family for a time of fellowship after the service at 400 West Bay Rd., Gouldsboro.
