YARMOUTH – Hilmon L. Karnes, 86, died Dec. 7, 2003. He was born July 5, 1917, in Danforth, a son of Allen and Alwilda (Brown) Karnes. He was married on April 17, 1942 to his wife of 61 years, Margaret. He worked as a purchaser and expeditor for various companies until his retirement in 1981. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, during which time he was awarded several medals, including the World War II Victory Medal. He was an avid golfer. Mr. Karnes is survived by his wife, Margaret; a daughter, Kathy Wolf of Sunrise, Fla.; a son, Kevin and his wife, Susan Karnes, of Durham; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several cousins. A Memorial Service will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10 at Jones, Rich and Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland.
