BELFAST – Homer M. Waterman, 83, died July 18, 2006, with his loved ones surrounding him at home. He was born in Johnson, Vt., son of Thomas and Alice (Mills) Waterman. He attended Kings Point Naval Academy in 1942. He served in World War II and was a merchant marine who worked for the U.S. Government Military Sea Transport Service. He moved to Belfast from Sharon, Mass. in 1968. He worked for State of Maine Ferry Boats, Lake Champlain Ferry Service, Belfast Tug Boats, Boston Fuel and Roland Genthner’s Garage in Belfast. He was also a real estate agent for Weaver’s Agency. Homer was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Belfast. His most precious treasure was his wife and family. He believed they were the riches of the world. He enjoyed farming and cooking. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Thomas; and sister, Elizabeth “Betty.” Homer is survived by his bride of 62 years, Bernice L. “Bea” Waterman; seven children, Bernice L. Coulter of Palermo, Leslie A. Glover of Waldoboro, Charles S. Waterman of Montpelier, Vt., Holly D. Johnson of China, Sharon L. Waterman of Marshfield, Mass., Stacey H. Williams of China, Lois F. Cross of Belmont; his brother, John and wife, Charlotte, of Castleton, Vt.; sister, Margaret Hoyt and husband, John, of Milton, Vt.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 27, at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, Court Street, Belfast. Family and friends are invited noon-3 p.m. to a lunch shared with the family to celebrate Homer’s life at The Boathouse. The family suggests memorial donations be made to Waldo County Hospice, P.O. Box 287, Belfast, ME 04915. Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
