BANGOR – Howard D. York, 90, died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005, at his daughter’s home in Ells-worth. He was born Jan. 12, 1915, in Medway, the son of John K. and Clara B. (Lee) York. Howard was a veteran of World War II, during which time he served in the U.S. Army. He worked at Great Northern Paper in East Millinocket for many years. After retiring, he worked for his son’s logging business, cutting and delivering firewood. Howard was a member of Village Lodge No. 26, Bowdoinham. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marion L. (Coon) York of Ellsworth; four children, Susan White and her husband, William, of Lake Charles, La., H. Arthur York and his wife, Lynn, of Medway, Ellen York of Ellsworth and David York and his wife, Rhonda, of Medway; five grandchildren, Rebecca, Matthew, Jodie, Mark and Brittany; one great-granddaughter, Samantha; a brother, Kent York and his wife, Marsha, of Windham; a sister, Rebecca Cole and her husband, Benjamin, of Medway; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Howard was predeceased by five sisters, twins Mavis and Avis “Roene” York, Hilma Flemming, June Oakes and Alma Butterfield; and a brother, Lee York. Graveside funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6 at Mount Hope Cemetery, 1048 State St., Bangor, with the Rev. Dr. James L. Haddix officiating, followed by military honors. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Superintendent’s Lodge at Mount Hope (State Street Entrance) prior to the service.
