WINSLOW – Howard E. Leigher, 94, died Feb. 17, 2004. He was born May 7, 1909, in Washington, the son of Edward and Inex (Sukeforth) Leigher. Howard Graduated from Washington High School in 1927. He worked for the Maine State Liquor Commission for 39 and a half years retiring as foreman of the warehouse in 1976. He started a dried bean business in 1941, and operated it until 2001. Howard joined the Masons in 1933. He belonged to the Consistory, was a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of the Kora Temple Shrine. In August of 2003, he received his 70-year Masonic pin. He loved to travel, and was a member of several camping clubs including the Penobscot Valley Camp Ground. Surviving are his companion of 41 years, Mabel Gleason; and two cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Bernard and Clifton Leigher; and a sister, Marieta Patrick. Visiting will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Oakland, where a Masonic memorial service will be conducted 7 p.m. Thursday, and a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial donations to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607-1460.
