CALAIS – Howard John Beattie, 76, died May 28, 2004, at a Calais hospital. He was born April 4, 1928, in Placerville, Calif., the son of Alma and James Beattie. Howard was an active member of the Calais Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and had been a proclaimer of the good news of the Kingdom since 1959. Howard is survived by his wife of 52 years, Constance (Goodwin) Beattie of Calais; a brother, James Beattie of Forest Hill, Calif.; three daughters, and their husbands, Polly and Shawn Rees of Athol, Mass., Patricia and Guenter Shatto of Clinton, Mass., Ruth and John Morgan of Kittery; four sons and their wives, Conrad and Eileen Beattie of Franklin, Harry Beattie of Brooklin, Kenneth and Gretchen Bettie of Camden and John Beattie of Lincolnville; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; three sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; and mother-in-law, Mary Goodwin. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Steuben with William K. Ayres officiating. A reception for friends and family will be held immediately following at the Henry D. Moore Parish House and Library in Steuben.
