BURLINGTON – Howard W. Shorey, 92, husband of Edythe (Harriman) Shorey, died March 28, 2008, at a Lincoln hospital. He was born June 11, 1915, in Burlington, the son of Lloyd and Myrtle (Sibley) Shorey. Howard was one of 18 brothers and sisters. In 1936 he married Edythe Harriman. He worked as a boiler operator for Maine Central for a short time. He then worked as a logger, carpenter and guide, and was caretaker of Nicatous Lodge. In addition to his wife of 72 years, Edythe of Burlington, he is survived by three children, Dale Shorey and his wife, Sandra, of Illinois, Patsy Shedd and her husband, John, of California and Joan Sage and her husband, Paul, of Howland; one brother, David Thompson of Skowhegan; four grandchildren, Cheryl Kosydor, Chris Shorey, Tracey Juan and Scott Shedd; six great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Donna; 11 brothers and five sisters. Friends may call noon-2 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Keith Shorey officiating. Interment will be at Mount Repose Cemetery, Burlington, later in the spring.
