FORT KENT – Hubert A. Gardner, 87, died April 7, 2005, at a Fort Kent hospital. He was born May 3, 1917, in Allagash, the son of Thomas and Gladys (Mills) Gardner. Hubert is a life member of the Masonic Lodge No. 209, in Fort Kent. He also was a registered Maine guide, and a wood contractor for Seven Island Land Company and Great Northern Paper Co. for many years until his retirement. Hubert loved spending time at his camp on Robbins Pond. He will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting and spending time in his garden. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by one daughter and her husband, Lois and Robert O’Leary of Hampden; two sons and their wives, Allan and Susan Gardner of Allagash and William and Gail Gardner of Lincoln; two brothers, Leslie Gardner of Allagash and Eldon Gardner of Portage; one sister, Clara McBreairty of Allagash; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Louise in 1984; three sons, Lowell, Owen and Robert; three brothers, Lester, Wilber and Payson; and one sister, Belle Gibson. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday and 11 a.m. Monday until time of service at the Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home, Fort Kent. A funeral service with Masonic ceremony will be held 1 p.m. at the Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home in Fort Kent, with Pastor Gary Gardner officiating. Burial will be held May 17, 2005, in St. Paul’s Congregational Cemetery. In his memory, those who wish may donate to a charity of their choice.
