ADDISON – Hugh Raymond Hurlbert, 71, went to be with the lord on Aug. 3, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. He was born March 22, 1933, in Whitneyville, the son of William Hurlbert and Geneva Whittle. Beloved husband of Joan Elizabeth Hurlbert and father of five children, Brenda and her husband, Leslie Peabody, of Addison, Robert Hurlbert and his wife, Marie, of Steuben, Susan Weaver and her fianc?, Joseph LaPointe, of Machias, Crystal and her husband, Scott Porter, of Newport News, Va., and Jill and her husband, Sidney Merchant, of Beals. Grandfather of 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild, Stacey and her husband, J.J. Tibbetts, Leslie Peabody Jr. and his wife, Crystal, Samantha and her husband, Andy Hackett, Tammy Peabody, T.J. and Ashley Rockwell, Courtney Porter, Morgan and Sidney Merchant, Cole and Cohen Hurlbert, Brandon and Brent Weaver, Kaitlin LaPointe, and Damion Hackett. He also had three brothers and three sisters, Edith, Violet, Flora, Ray, and was predeceased by Waldo and David. He had many special friends including Leander and Clara Wass, and Donnie and Judy Handy, all of Addison. He was in the Army and served in the Korean War where he received several purple hearts. He was self-employed most of his life, loved working on the water and worming with the boys. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Friday at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Milbridge where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, with the Rev. Bernard Brown officiating. Internment will be at the New Hurlbert Family Cemetery, Addison.
