ETNA – Ida J. Graves, 84, died Feb. 6, 2008, at a Pittsfield health care facility after a long illness. She was born March 17, 1923, in Mount Chase, the daughter of Elmer and Mary E. (York) Lord. Ida was married to Charles B. Graves Jr., who died June 20, 1985. For more than 15 years, Ida worked at H.P. Hood and Sons, Newport. She and her husband, Charles, owned and operated Graves General Store, Etna, for more than 10 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Newport. She was a member of the Newport Senior Citizens and volunteered at Sebasticook Valley Community Center, New-port. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting for her family, friends, and donating her projects to local organizations to be sold to help children. She is survived by one son, Charles B. Graves III and his wife, Cheryl, of Quincy, Ind.; two daughters and their husbands, Rita and Stephen Weymouth of Kenduskeag, Eileen and David Shaw of Etna; one brother, Carl Lord of Patten; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia McAlpine; and several brothers and sisters. Graveside services will be conducted in July in the family lot at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Etna.
