BANGOR – Inez (Merrill) Giles Stover Boyd, 91, died April 7, 2006, at her home. She was born Nov. 2, 1914, in Old Town, the only child of Raymond John and Margie (Gates) Merrill. Mrs. Boyd was home schooled through 12th grade and received her State of Maine Certificate of Accreditation through Brewer High School in 1932. She graduated from Bangor School of Commerce, now Husson College, in 1935. In 1942, she married her long-time sweetheart, Lawrence Giles of Ellsworth who was enlisted in the U.S. Air Corps. In January 1943, during some of the frequent fighting of World War II in the New Guinea area, the plane upon which Lawrence was crew chief was shot down over the Coral Sea, taking the lives of the entire crew. Inez later married Frederick Stover who died Jan. 19, 1959. In 1962, she married Harry Boyd. She was a member of Hammond Street Congregational Church, sang in the choir for more than 30 years, served 12 years on the YWCA Board of Directors, five years on the Board of Trustees, served three years as president of Stanwood Wildlife Foundation, Birdsacre, Ellsworth, co-founder, member and president for three years of Eastern Maine Camera Club. She was noted for her excellent programs and color slides of nature and birds. She was president of the Bangor Nature Club for 20 years. Of all the wonderful things that could be said about Inez, the first and foremost was her unbridled love of people and nature. Inez touched all who met her with her warm, easy smile, joyful spirit and genuine kindness. She will be missed. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husbands; and a sister-in-law, Martha Giles. Surviving are one sister-in-law, Virginia Boyd of Bangor; one stepdaughter, Barbara S. VanDeBogert of Gold River, Calif.; one stepgranddaughter, Ann VanDeBogert Livesay, of Rancho Cordova, Calif.; and one stepgrandson, H. Peter VanDeBogert of Beverly, Mass.; four great-stepgrandchildren, Ellen Main of South Pasadena, Calif., Lori Boltinghouse of Sacramento, Calif., Erin VanDeBogert of Beverly, Mass. and Brian VanDeBogert of Orinie, Kenya; two great-great-stepgrand-children, Henry and Violet Main, both of South Pasadena, Calif.; two nieces, Anitra Lilly of Medina, Ohio and Josephine Mechaw of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; four great-nephews, Stewart Lilly of Jacksonville, Fla., Stephen Lilly of Glen Ellyn, Ill., Nathan Lilly of Austin, Texas and Alan Mechaw of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; one great-niece, Beth Morstadt of Jupiter, Fla.; four great-great-nephews, Sebastian, Alexander and Zachary Lilly, all of Glen Ellyn, Ill. and Brian Morstadt of Jupiter, Fla.; one great-great-niece, Brittany Morstadt of Jupiter, Fla. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, at the Hammond Street Congregational Church, with the Rev. Dr. Mark Allen Doty, pastor officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to call at the church 10 a.m. until time of service Wednesday. The family invites relatives and friends for refreshments in the Large Vestry after the service.
