BANGOR – Irene A. Mathieu 87, a resident of Westgate Manor, Bangor, formerly of Fletcher St., Kennebunk, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, in Bangor. She was born in Sanford, a daughter of George and Malvina Martin L’Heureux. She attended Sanford schools. She married Alfred Mathieu in 1945. Irene and her late husband ran the Mathieu Jewelry store in Kennebunk until 1976. She enjoyed playing cards, dancing, gardening, walking and spending time with her family. She was predeceased by her husband, who died in 1999; and her two sisters, Jeanette Bernier and Beatrice Legere. She is survived by her two daughters, Cecile Shields of Greenville, and Carlene Brockmann of Columbia Falls; four brothers, Raymond and Real L’Heureux, both of Sanford, Edward L’Heureux of Kittery, and Rev. Ernest L’Heureux of Bridgton; a sister, Cecile Therrian of Sanford; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk. A funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the St. Martha’s Church, Portland Road, Kennebunk, with the Rev. Laurent LaPlante officiating. Interment will be in Hope Cemetery in the spring.
