WEST BROOKSVILLE – Irene B. “Nannie” Bakeman, 91, died Feb. 21, 2008, at a Penobscot health care facility. She was born Dec. 27, 1916, in Brooks-ville, the daughter of Frank E. and Mary (Blodgett) Babson. Irene graduated from Brooksville High School and attended Castine Normal School. She worked many years at her brother-in-law’s business, Frank Snow’s Plumb-ing & Heating. Irene was a member of West Brooksville Congregational Church for many years and was a pioneer of the Jolly Helper’s. She will be remembered for her generosity, her willingness to help others and her spirit of honesty, hard work, humor and caring about neighbors and friends in her community. Irene loved to cook, watch birds, crochet and go for walks. Her true love was for her family. She was absolutely thrilled with the arrival of new babies. She loved children of all ages; this was a trait known by all and gives her credit for being the best grandmother in the world. She will be lovingly remembered by her two sons, John F. Bakeman and wife, Carol, of Blue Hill and Richard M. Bakeman and wife, Doris, of Brooksville; four grandchildren, Kimberley Clark and husband, Daryl, of Franklin, Lori Dodge and husband, Errol, of Blue Hill, John F. Bakeman Jr. and wife, Amber, of Cape Rosier and Traci Astbury and husband, Lance, of Brooksville; eight great-grandchildren, Jessica Irene, Madison, Taylor, Elana, John, Alexon, Riley and Brooke; sister, Katherine Clifford, sisters-in-law, Dot Bake-man and Rachel Babson; brother-in-law, Frank Snow; many nieces and nephews. Irene was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, John FR. Bakeman in 2005; sister, Virginia; and a brother, Manley. Graveside services will be held in the spring at Mount Rest Cemetery, North Brooks-ville.
