SWANVILLE – Irene Blanch Inferrera, 87, died Oct. 22, 2005, at a Bangor healthcare facility. She was born May 31, 1918, in Swanville, the daughter of Edward C. and Cora A. (Riley) Walker. Irene graduated from Brooks High School. She received her registered nurse license in 1941 after completing nurses training at Waldo County General Hospital. Irene then went on to serve her country in the U.S. Army as a nurse during World War II stationed in Taunton, England, in the 67th General Hospital, to care for the wounded GI’s. Throughout her life she worked as a nurse at Waldo County General Hospital, at nursing homes, and as a private nurse. For several years she was the owner and operator of Golden Oak Nursing Home in Belfast. Irene was a member of the VFW Post in Belfast and the Grange in Swanville. She was a dear loving mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed. She is survived by two sons, Robert “Bob” Inferrera of Bangor, Michael Inferrera of Swanville; three grandchildren, Adele Inferrera, Simon Inferrera and Angela Inferrera; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Salvatore, and all of her brothers and sisters. A Memorial Service at Phillips-Strickland House will be announced at a later date.
