WALTHAM – Irene F. Jordan, 77, beloved wife and mother, died at home on Sept. 20, 2004. She was born on July 10, 1927, in Lee, the daughter of Fred and Fern (Lovett) Delano. She graduated from Lee Academy in 1945 and Husson College in 1947. After college, she worked for Dr. Charles Silsby and for a time at Union Trust Bank. In 1948, she married her husband, Harland, who loved and cared for her for 55 wonderful years. She was an active member of the Waltham Baptist Sunday School, a member of the Eastbrook Baptist Church and supported many community groups, such as the 4-H club, Cave Hill School and the Waltham Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She had a special affinity for children of all ages. She was an avid reader, loved to sew, making many beautiful quilts and embroidered blankets for family and friends. She loved to cook for her family and cherished every moment spent with her children and grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Harland; she is survived by five children and their spouses, Gail Hare and husband, Stephen of Gray, Stephen Jordan and wife, Kim, of Waltham, Dana Jordan and wife, Mary Ann, of Barre, Mass., Mary Jordan and husband, Joseph, of Waltham and Barbara Yankowsky and husband, Michael, of Gorham; a brother, Lester Delano and wife, Shirley; a sister-in-law, Susan Delano Oliver of Lee. She was predeceased by two brothers, Kenneth Delano and Byron Delano; and a sister, Erma Cobb Banis. She was blessed with 10 grandchildren of whom she was very proud, Christina, Patrick and Jason Jordan, Brett Jordan, Andrea and Chadd Jordan, Melanie and Stephanie Hare and Alex and Marc Yankowsky, as well as many nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, at the Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, with Pastor Rolf Hellum officiating. Interment will be at the Hillside Cemetery, Waltham.
