PRESQUE ISLE – Opal P. Johnson, 85, died Sept. 21, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Feb. 21, 1919, in Presque Isle, the daughter of Van W. and Nellie (Hartley) Perkins. Opal attended the Maine School of Commerce in Bangor and the Barbizon School of Modeling in New York City. Opal and her husband Fred farmed for many years in Easton and enjoyed their race horses. She retired from the University of Maine at Presque Isle as an administrative assistant in the Business Office. During her working years, she was a member of the Presque Isle Business and Professional Women’s Club and a member of the Board of Directors of the Central Aroostook Humane Society. Opal is survived by her sister, Glenna McCrum of Presque Isle; her niece, Linda Swett and her husband, Dana of Presque Isle; and a nephew, Gary McCrum and his wife, Dorothy of Woodbridge, Conn. She also leaves special friends who were family to her, Carolyn and Joe Cheney of Presque Isle and their daughter and family, Lindsey, Jonathan and Jackson Maynard of Rocky Mount, N.C. Predeceasing her was her husband, Fred M. Johnson. At her request there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday at the Estes Park Cemetery in Easton with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Blackstone officiating. Opal loved and cared about all animals; therefore, those who wish may donate in her memory to the Central Aroostook Humane Society, 26 Cross St., Presque Isle, ME 04769. Arrangements are in the care of the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home.
