HOWLAND – Iris L. Cookson, 86, wife of the late Norris Cookson, died May 2, 2004, at a Houlton nursing home. She was born Sept. 28, 1917, in Hodgdon, the daughter of Winfield and Edna Mae (Brown) Scott. Iris had owned and operated foster homes for children for 24 years in Pittsfield and Enfield, and then a boarding home for 18 years in Howland. She is survived by a son, David Allen Cookson of Howland; a daughter, Caroline Michaud of Dover-Foxcroft; three brothers, Elwood Scott of So. Portland, Ellery Scott of Lee, Jack Scott of Houlton; two sisters, Geraldine Oliver of Houlton, Joan Lindsey of Phoenix City, Ala.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Linwood; and a sister, Phyllis Putnam. Friends are invited to call from 12 noon until time of service at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at the Lary Funeral Home, Milo, with the Rev. Rudy Homchuck officiating. Interment will be in the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery.
