BAR HARBOR – Irma C. Simoneau, 84, died Friday, April 6, 2007, in Bar Harbor. She was born April 22, 1922, in Stonington, the daughter of the late Alton H. and Louise C. (Holt) Gross. Mrs. Simoneau graduated from high school in Bar Harbor with the Class of 1940. Mrs. Simoneau was a member of the Hancock County REACT, which monitored Channel 9 for emergencies and relayed them via CB radio. She was a charter member of the Mount Desert Island Search and Rescue, and the State of Maine named an award after her, for her efforts with search and rescue, named the Irma Simoneau Award, which she was the first recipient. She had received VIP status from the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service for her many years of devoted service and true friendship to Acadia National Park. She also received the Certificate of Award for Excellence in Community Service from the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also the recipient of the Jefferson Award, sponsored by the Maine Broadcasting System for Public Service. She shared 45 years of marriage with the late Alexander Joseph Simoneau. Family members include a daughter, Sheila (Simoneau) Hamblen and husband, Steven, of Bar Harbor; a granddaughter, Cori L. Howie and companion, Joel Mitchell, of Bar Harbor; great-grandson, Gage J. Pinkham of Bar Harbor; an adopted daughter, Jennifer Fisk of Bar Harbor; several nieces, nephews and many special friends. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Allen E.
