BANGOR – Irvine Ralph Grant, 82, died Oct. 28, 2005, at his home in Bangor. He was born July 6, 1923, in Houlton, son of H. Rankin and Ellen (Hughes) Grant. Irvine was a U.S. army veteran of World War II serving in the 531 ordinance heavy tank maintenance company of the third division. He and his father were the owner/operators of the former H. Rankin Grant Company, a well-known Bangor area sheet metal contractor, and was a former sales person for Bean and Conquest Chevrolet dealers. In more recent years he was the owner of Grant’s Delivery Service retiring Nov. 1, 2003. He was a member of the River City Wesleyan Church of Bangor and a former member of Rising Virtue Lodge No. 10 AF & AM of Bangor, York Rite Bodies, St. John’s Commandary, Bangor Council and Chapter, Anah Shriners and a former member of the second section of the shrine. Surviving are his loving wife of 59 years, Arline (Furrow) Grant, of Bangor; three daughters, Susan MacDonald and her husband, Paul, of Abilene, Texas, Kathy Stilton and her husband, Don, of St. Petersburg, Fla., Sarah Keezer and her husband, Larry, of Bangor; nine grandchildren, James MacDonald, Karen Billings, Amy Jepsen, Kathy Kuhns, Chris Stilton, Jim Stilton, Geoff Stilton, Kate Keezer, and Brian Keezer; 15 great-grandchildren, one sister, Violet McInnis; nieces and nephews. Irvine was predeceased by a son, Henry Rankin Grant II; one brother, Elmer R. Grant; and a sister, Madeline Wright. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Stephen Sinclair Pastor of the River City Wesleyan Church, officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Those who wish to remember Irvine in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the memorial fund of the River City Wesleyan Church, 146 Center St., Bangor.
