BELFAST – Isabel W. Palmer, 84, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2006, at a Belfast hospital where she was surrounded by her family. Born April 29, 1921, in Waldo, she was the daughter of Eben and Nellie (Cross) Whitcomb. She was raised on a farm in Waldo. Isabel was educated in Waldo, attended Crosby High School in Belfast and was vice president of the graduating Class of 1938. She also attended the Bangor School of Commerce, graduating in 1939 with a degree in junior secretarial studies, where she received two filing awards and the Zaner-Bloser Certificate. She was a member of the Hiking club and Epsilon Tau Epsilon. Isabel married John L. Palmer March 18, 1947, and for many years they owned and operated Palmer’s Stationery Store and Home Supply Center in Belfast. In addition to her involvement in both businesses, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, playing cards and she particularly enjoyed spending time with family members. Isabel was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Marion Brown of Belfast; and two brothers, Colby and Kenneth Whitcomb of Waldo. She was also predeceased by her husband, John, who died in March 2005. Isabel is survived by two daughters, Wendy (Palmer) Merry and her husband, Leslie Merry, of Swanville and Julie Palmer Morse and her husband, Gregory Morse, of Brunswick; three grandchildren, Dana Scribner and his wife, Kirsten, of Gorham, Trisha (Merry) Chambers and her husband, Larry, of Bucksport and Aaron Morse and his fiance, Kristy Brustas, of West Yarmouth, Mass.; six great-grandchildren, Logan, Jacob, Kaylee, Paige, Jonathan and Andrew. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, April 7, at Faith Temple Church of God, Lincolnville Avenue, Belfast, with private burial at Grove Cemetery.
