HOULTON – Mr. J. Thomas Fitzpatrick, 95, passed away Sept. 26, 2007, at home, after a brief illness. He was born Dec. 4, 1911, in Houlton, the son of Jeremiah and Clara (Langan) Fitzpatrick. He graduated from Houlton High School in 1930 and continued to work on the family dairy farm, until joining Prudential Life Insurance Co., Bangor, in 1937. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and served two and one-half years aboard the USS Battleship Texas. In 1947, Tom and three of his brothers established Fitz’s Beverages, a soft drink bottling and distribution business. After retiring from the bottling business in 1969, Tom became the assessor for the town of Houlton, a job he held until his second retirement in 1982. During his tenure with the town, he also served as acting town manager and building inspector. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Church, a Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus, past president of the Houlton Rotary Club and recipient of a Paul Harris award. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He served for several years as a member of the personnel board at Houlton Regional Hospital. His interests included travel, woodworking and skiing, but his passions were family, church and the community. He is survived by his children, Jane Johnson and her husband, Scott, Dennis and his wife, Sandra, Maureen Todd and her husband, Richard and Kevin and his wife, Marissa Ianucci; and grandchildren, Abigail and Eliza Johnson, Jennifer Mroz and Hilary Blythe, Patrick and Molly Todd, and Kendall and Liam Fitzpatrick. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Gertrude (Fitzpatrick) Lee of West Hartford, Conn.; and more than 100 loving nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by parents; his loving wife, Margaret; his brothers, Leroy, Joseph, Eugene, Louis, Paul and Jerry; and his sisters, Margaret Harrigan and Mary Harding. Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water St., Houlton. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Houlton. A reception will be immediately after in the church hall. Internment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery after the reception. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to J. Thomas and Margaret G.
