DETROIT – Jack F. Neal, 78, died peacefully Friday, May 5, 2006, at his Detroit home, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 30, 1927, in St. Albans, the son of Gilbert and Iva (Seekins) Neal. He graduated from Hartland Academy in Hartland. Jack married Doris L. Withee June 16, 1950, in Newport. He ran his own carpentry business for many years and also worked for local contractors. He was an avid hunter, golfer, and truly enjoyed woodworking. He was well known in the area for his bean hole beans and bean parties, as well as his wooden crafts. His parents and two brothers, Wesley and Oren Neal predeceased Jack. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Doris L. (Withee) Neal of Detroit; five children and their spouses, Linda and Chris Foster of New Caney, Texas, Wanda and Skip Walker of Texas and St Albans, Jack and Joan Neal of Detroit, Brenda Neal and her fiance, Duane Ballard, of Palmyra, Larry and Roxanne Neal of Jefferson; two brothers and their wives, Donald and Jean Neal of Detroit, Paul and Barbara Neal of Inverness, Fla.; one sister and her husband, Beverly and Raymond Martin of Hartland; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. Graveside services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at the Detroit Village Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 34 High St., Newport.
