DEER ISLE – Jack W. Hamblen Sr., 84, died May 4, 2008, at a Deer Isle health care facility. He was born Oct. 25, 1923, in Stonington, the only child of Rexford and Lydia (Barter) Hamblin. Jack was an accomplished wood carver and painter. His many trades included lobstering, musseling, trucking and more recently, Hamblins Seafood, specializing in smoked and pickled mussels. Jack will be missed by his wife of 64 years, May; his two children, Jack Jr. and wife, Audrey, and Melinda and her husband, Gordon; his adopted daughter, Barbette and her husband, Sonny, and their two children, Danielle and Zachary. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Jack and wife, Kara, Debbie and fianc?, Walter, and Darleen and husband, Freddie; and his great-grand-children, Nicholas and Ava. He will also be missed by faithful friends of the family, Ann Bryan and her daughters, Landere, Lara and Maya; many nieces, nephews and cousins. A graveside service will be celebrated 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, at Oceanville Cemetery, Stonington, with Elder Dowe Eaton.
