NEW SWEDEN – James A. Carlson, 60, died Friday, March 16, 2007, with his wife and family by his side at Northern Maine Medical Center, after an extended illness. He was born Jan. 20, 1947, in Caribou, the son of the late Wallace and Ruth (Ostlund) Carlson. James grew up in New Sweden and went on to serve his country in the U. S. Army from 1965 to 1969, spending part of his career stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was a self-employed logger for many years and had a true love for the outdoors. His many hobbies included hunting, fishing, snow sledding and playing a game of poker with friends. He was on the board of directors for the Nordic Lakers Snowmobile Club, a member of the American Legion Post No. 136, Stockholm and was also a member of the Gustaf Adolf Lutheran Churh, New Sweden. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda (Forsman) Carlson of New Sweden; a daughter, Shannon Cheviot and her husband, James; a son, Scott Reed; a grandson, Cody Cheviot; a granddaughter, Alexandria Cheviot; a sister, Jeanne Clowes and her husband, Tom; a brother, Gary Carlson and his wife, Vicki; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, at the Gustaf Adolf Lutheran Church, New Sweden, with the Rev. James Morgan officiating. Friends may call from 3 p.m. until time of service. Interment will take place in the spring at Westmanland Cemetery. After the service, there will be a reception held in the church fellowship fall.
