PROSPECT HARBOR – James B. Simmons, 63, of Prospect Harbor, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, at a Bangor hospital, with family and friends by his side. He was born in Quimby, Iowa, Jan. 14, 1940, the youngest son of Guy H. and Vashti L. Hulse Simmons. He attended local schools there and graduated from Moville Iowa High School, Class of 1958, and the University of South Dakota in 1964, with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts. Jim began his career teaching in the Prince George County, Maryland School District for four years. He then went on to teach in the Fairfax County, Virgina Public Schools, where he retired in 1989, after 25 years of teaching. Following his retirement Jim moved to Machias and in 1995 to Corea. All during his retirement he continued to enjoy painting, doing wood sculptures and restoring old furniture. His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends, his contagious laugh and wide smile will long be remembered by the many people whose lives he touched. Jim is survived by a special friend, Thomas B. Robbins of Prospect Harbor; one sister, Deanna M. Hellar of Oshkosh, Wis.; and one brother, Donald G. Simmons of Killen, Ala.; several nieces, nephews and many loving friends. At Jim’s request all services will be private.
