HOULTON and SAN DIEGO, Calif. – James Clifford Evans, 84, went to be with his Lord Jan. 1, 2005, at Houlton. He was born March 6, 1920, in Thornton, Ark., the son of James Garfield and Sarah (Ellis) Evans. He was a veteran of World War II. He loved his country serving in the U.S. Navy with gratitude. James enjoyed singing with his wife, his family, directing choirs leading Gods people in praise, was very active in serving the lord at his churches and enjoyed the Arkansas Razorbacks, his alma mater. He is survived by three children, James Croom and his wife, Paula Evans, of Little Rock, Ark., Philip Clifford Evans of San Diego and Melanie and her husband, Randall Burns, of Houlton; four grandchildren, James Clifford II and his wife, Sonya, Benjamin, Mackenzie and Madeline; two great-grandchildren, Kaelyn and Christian; five brothers and sisters, Cecil, Howard, Ellis, Clayton and Robert Evans and Sue Ann Lee, all of Arkansas. He was predeceased by his wife, Sibyl; one daughter, Deborah; one sister, Madeline; one brothers, Lloyd; and one granddaughter, Amanda Grace Burns. Friends may call 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, at the Military St. Baptist Church with funeral services being held at 11 a.m. with his son-in-law, Rev. Randall Burns officiating. Interment will be in the Calaway Cemetery in Arkansas.
