GRANADA HILLS, CALIF. and BANGOR – James Edward Eslin, 56, died of melanoma at his home Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004. He was born April 5, 1947, in Bangor, the son of Joseph and Helena (Dibou) Eslin. Jim attended local schools and graduated from Orono High School in 1965. Following graduation, he served in the U. S. Army, which included a tour of duty in Vietnam. After his discharge from the military, Jim headed to California to pursue his dream of becoming an actor and a writer. Among the bit parts he attained over the years, was a role in the recent movie, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” He performed his magic and comedy routines at nightclubs throughout California and was employed for nearly 20 years at Knott’s Berry Farm. He especially enjoyed camping and hiking and the joy his children brought to him. He is survived by his wife, Danette Overturf; son, Zoriah; daughter, Bryana, all of Granada Hills, Calif.; brothers, Charles of Honolulu, Hawaii, Robert of Oakland, Md.; sisters, Joan Tremble of Brewer, Evelyn McGrath of Glenburn, Carolyn Quinn and Alda Liptack, both of Las Vegas, Nev. Jim also is survived by his foster parents, Phil and Dot Dubay of Bangor. He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Joseph and Michael; and sister, Pauline. The family plans a private memorial service later this month in California.
