JAMES ‘JIM’ A. GLANS Bangor – James “Jim” A. Glans, 78, passed away unexpectedly at his home April 5, 2004. He was born March 10, 1926, in warren, Pa., the son of Carl A. and Lorena May (Godell) Glans. Jim graduated from Warren_High School and attended Hoff Business College. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 to serve his country during World War II and was Honorably Discharged in 1947 as an Airman 3rd Class. Jim retired from GTE Sylvania, Bangor, in 1986, as a buyer after 33 years, transferring from Warren, Pa., in 1972. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Jim was a member and past trustee for 23 years of B.P.O.E. No. 244, Life member of Moose Lodge No. 109, member of the American Legion Post No. 135, Warren, Pa., and a member of theBrewer Eagles Club. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Joan B. Glans; three daughters, Sheri Dayringer and husband, Steve, of Atlanta, Ga., Linda Thayer and husband, David, of Bangor, Lori Doak and husband, Eric, of Newburgh; a stepdaughter, Valerie Alex and husband, Steve, of Rockport; two stepsons, Douglas E. Belhumeur and Kenneth G. Chase, of Bangor; grandchildren, Shawn and Scott Dayringer, Corey Thayer, Lorena and Lindsey Martin, stepgrandchildren, Nick and Jarod Doak, Erika and Kristina Alex; the mother of his children, Mary Glans of Bangor; cousins, and many friends in Bangor_and Warren, Pa. Relatives and friends are invited to call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where the officers of the Bangor_Elks Lodge No. 244, will conduct a remembrance service at 7:30 p.m. and the Rev. Grace M. Bartlett, pastor of the Grace United Methodist Church, will follow with a memorial service. Interment will be at Maine Veterans Cemetery, Augusta. Those who wish may make gifts in Jim’s memory to the Maine Veterans Home, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor; the Bangor_Lodge of Elks No. 244, or to the Bangor_Humane Society, 693 Mount Hope_Ave., Bangor.
